This 5 Days Wildlife, Gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi Island Adventure takes you on a Queen Elizabeth National Park, Bwindi Gorilla Park & Lake Bunyonyi Island Tour takes you to the South Western Part of Uganda. 5 Days Wildlife Gorillas & Lake Bunyonyi Island Adventure – DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1: Transfer from Kampala to Queen Elizabeth National park Wildlife Safari
Our safari guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kampala or Entebbe and depart by road heading west to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This 6-7 Hour Journey with stopovers at areas such as the Royal Drum makers’ village and the Equator for an opportunity to stand in two hemispheres at the same time as you enjoy photography moments. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park following the mystical Rwenzori Mountain range for much of the journey. A game drive Enroute may be rewarded with views of Lions, Elephants, Leopards, Buffaloes, Hyenas and a variety of Antelope species. Enjoy your Dinner and Overnight at Mweya safari lodge (Luxury), Ihamba Safari Lodge, Enganzi Lodge (Midrange), Queen’s Bush Lodge, Pumba Safari Cottages (Budget).
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner.
DAY 2: Game drive – Afternoon Launch Cruise on Kazinga Channel.
After a cup of coffee, Embark on an early morning game drive along Kasenyi track and Queen’s mile in the park and expect to see Lions, Elephants, cape buffalo, Warthogs, leopard, hyena, mongoose, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, Topi and lots many small animals and birds. Later return to the Lodge for your Breakfast and relax at the Lodge as you await your Lunch.
In the afternoon, take a 2 hours launch cruise on the Kazinga channel that connects Lakes Edward and George, one of the most exciting activities in this park with a chance to see a huge population of Hippos and Crocodiles in the water while elephants and buffaloes grazing on the banks of the channel as well as an array of birdlife including; the kingfishers, Egyptian fish eagle, saddle-billed stork, among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight as above.

DAY 3: Search for Tree Climbing Lions and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
After breakfast, drive out of the park and proceed to Bwindi Impenetrable National park through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, the area is famous for its tree-climbing lions. Lunch stop en route and later arrival at Bwindi Impenetrable Gorilla Park, the park that hosts over half of the world’s remaining population of the Mountain Gorillas. The park also inhabits about 348 bird species with the park hosting about 24 of the 26 Albertine endemics found in Uganda.
Dinner and Overnight at Buhoma Lodge, Gorilla Resort, Gorilla Safari Lodge, Silverback Lodge (Luxury), Buhoma Community Bandas, Bwindi View Bandas, Wagitel, Nkuringo Gorilla Camp and Kisoro Tourist Hotel.

Day 4: Bwindi Gorilla Safari – Lake Bunyonyi Island Tour
After a hearty breakfast, report to the ranger station at 8:00 am and enter the gorilla sanctuary with the ranger guides for the most interesting activity in the world, Gorilla Tracking. The tracking activity takes between half an hour to about 5 hours thus, a steady pair of walking shoes is recommended as well as a reasonable degree of fitness. Sit in the dense rain forest for an hour hearing these delightful mountain gorillas grumble at each other.
After your encounter with those mysterious mountain gorillas, say farewell to the impenetrable forest and head to Lake Bunyonyi. Lake Bunyonyi is another major tourist stopover that is undeniably amazing. The word Bunyonyi means “small birds” in direct translation which means that the lake is a must stopover for committed birders and besides that its serpentine shape and numerous islands are other highlights one must look out for. Arrive at Lake Bunyonyi and have an afternoon to relax by the Island as you enjoy the scenery. Dinner and Overnight at Bunyonyi Bird’s Nest, Bunyonyi Safari Resort Cottages, Nature’s Prime Island, Bunyonyi Overland Camp.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala
An early breakfast, take a canoe ride to the Pygmy island as you also check out several islands en route like Bwama Island good for birders / you could take a nature walk helping you to appreciate a variety of small birds or hike to the viewpoint on the hills to see the exceedingly beautiful scenery of this part of the country. Later transfer back to Kampala having lunch en route, the drive back to Kampala as well as stopping to shop for curios and arrival in Kampala to transfer to your Hotel / Transfer to Airport for an outbound flight home. End of your 5 Days Wildlife, Gorillas & Lake Bunyonyi Island Adventure.

This is a private tour, departure can be organised for any time throughout the year subject to availability of accommodation and transport.
Accommodation Booking: The Accommodations Mentioned in the Program depend on availability and Reservations are only made after your booking Confirmation. In case the mentioned accommodations are not available during the requested period, we will always do our best to book one for you in the same Class. This is done only after consulting you. While on a Safari always be sure to have all your belongings before checking out of the Accommodations to avoid losing things that may be important to you.
Transport: Our Safaris involve a lot of travelling on main Tarmac and Dirt Roads thus transport is provided in closed 4X4 Wheel drive Toyota Land Cruisers for all luxury Tours and the standard 4×4 Wheel drive Safari minivans for all Midrange Safaris. All Vehicles are provided with pop-top roofs for easy and excellent safari viewing. All passengers will have a dedicated window seat. Your professional English speaking and courteous driver/guide will be at your disposal for questions or translations.
For fly-in Tours/safaris / Private Charter flights: a combination of light aircraft and small plane Charters can fly you to all National Parks in Uganda Such as;
- Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Kisoro and Kihihi Airstrip) for your Gorilla Trekking Safari.
- Queen Elizabeth National Park (Mweya and Kasese Airstrip) to view the Park’s Big Five Game Safari.
- Murchison Falls National Park (Pakuba and Chobe Airstrip ) to view the Park’s Big Five Game Safari and the Murchison Falls.
- Lake Mburo National Park ( Mbarara Airstrip)
- Kibale Forest National Park ( Kasese Airstrip)
- Kidepo National Park.
These Flights decrease the miles on the ground needed to reach remote destinations. This is also Combined with the use of closed 4×4 Wheel Drive Vehicles with pop-top roofs that pick you up from the Airfields since they are located far away from the National Parks and Lodges that are usually in remote areas and this may involve some travelling on the main tarmac or dirt roads to reach the final destinations.
Gorilla trekking points to Note: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Uganda) Trails are steeper and less accessible, hence high levels of Energy is needed. Treks are often 2 to 3 hours each way (but can be more Or Less) and involve hiking through dense forest and traversing steep ravines and mountainsides, often in damp conditions. However, all this adventure is worthwhile for a glimpse of one of nature’s finest spectacles. There is a minimum age of 15 years on gorilla treks.
What to wear and bring with you on your gorilla trek: With changeable weather conditions and dense forest vegetation, it is advisable to take layers of protective clothing. We recommend wearing the following:
- t-shirt
- long-sleeved top
- warm fleece/jumper
- thick trousers
- thick wool socks (and gaiters preferably)
- strong lightweight, waterproof walking boots
- hat with brim
- garden gloves to aid scrambling up banks
And carry a small rucksack with:
- water
- packed lunch and snacks
- binoculars
- camera/video camera with spare battery, memory cards or film
- light-weight rain Mac / poncho
- Walking sticks are available at the Park headquarters and porters can be
- hired for approx. US$20.
- A sealed plastic bag around the camera/lenses will help keep them dry on the trek. Pockets are useful for valuables and spare camera batteries/lenses etc. as all other equipment must be left with porters approx. 200 meters away from the gorilla groups.
What to bring with you for a wildlife safari
- Rain Jacket is essential as it could unpredictably Rain
- Light Clothes as the sun does shine pretty bright in Murchison falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks
- Torch is essential for safety purposes
- Sunglasses to protect you from direct sun rays
- A zoom lens Camera for photographs
- A good insect repellent to keep those persistent Insects and Mosquitoes away.
NB: It is not a Guarantee to see all the Various Animals in the Parks, especially Cats but there is a great chance that you might see them during an Evening or Early Morning Game drive because it is less hot around that time and therefore the animals are freely roaming around as opposed to typical afternoon hours when it gets too hot for the animals and they go undertaking cover from the sun.
