This 4 days lake Mburo wildlife and gorilla trekking safari is for Visitors that wish to encounter a number of wildlife species and mountain gorillas to enjoy a Gorilla trekking safari in Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, combined with a short Wildlife excursion to Lake Mburo National Park which is Uganda’s smallest Savannah Park and the nearest National Park from Kampala. The Park Offers great animal sightings and on a Game drive, you will view a variety of wildlife such as zebras, impalas, elands, buffalos, Oribis, Defassa waterbucks, Bushbucks, duikers, hippos, hyenas, Warthogs topis, reedbucks, Giraffes and luckily leopards. Taking a boat ride on Lake Mburo will reward you with sights of water-loving animals such as crocodiles and Hippos and for the bird lovers, Lake Mburo National Park is home to 350 bird species giving you opportunities of enjoying a variety of bird species including the rare shoe bill stork.

Our Driver Guide will pick you up from your Hotel and drive west to Lake Mburo National Park which is the closest park to Kampala within a driving distance of 4 Hours (253Km). You will have a stopover at the Equator crossing line in Masaka for Photos. Proceed to the Park and drive through the game trails to enjoy the beautiful savannah as you observe a range of animals and birds. Lake Mburo offers the best sightings of many herbivores (vegetation-eating) animals such as antelopes, zebras, buffaloes and giraffes but not so good for cats. Leopards and Hyenas are in abundance but quite elusive.
After the game drive you will enjoy lunch at the Restaurant and Later in the Afternoon Take a boat ride on Lake Mburo, the biggest lake in the park, to watch water animals such as hippos and crocodiles and water birds for the keen birder. You will later continue to the lodge for dinner and overnight

Today you will go for a Morning Nature walk with a Ranger guide to the Salt Lick Area which is a strategically located wooden platform (Observation point) where you will have the chance to see at least four different species of animals at any one point while they lick the salty soil. This beautiful experience in the savannah gives you an up-close view of several animals as you enjoy the beautiful scenery! Thereafter you shall have breakfast at the Lodge and later check out and embark on the long drive to the lushest highland rain forest on earth, filled with primates and exotic birds, valleys, hilltops and papyrus swamps, the Bwindi Impenetrable forest National Park. Enroute stop in Mbarara for a visit to Igongo Cultural village for an amazing visit to the Ankole museum. Begin the day with early breakfast ready for your Gorilla Trekking Safari experience in Bwindi National Park, which begins at 8:00 am with a briefing from the UWA Park guides and assigning of Gorilla Families. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to about 459 mountain gorillas which is the highest population of mountain gorillas for any park and up to 19 families have been habituated for the gorilla trekking adventures. Ensure to carry along with you a rain jacket, drinking water, snacks, jungle boots etc. The guides will lead you inside the jungle to see the shy Primates for a group you have been booked for. Do not forget to take your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear to track the rare Mountain Gorilla. You will set off into the jungles of the impenetrable Forest to track the Mountain gorillas and spend 1 hour with a gorilla family. This is perhaps one of the most exciting an unforgettable Wildlife experiences. This Gorilla Trekking Safari Experience can take between 2 – 6 hours but it’s well worth the effort.
In the afternoon, you will take on a village Community walk that gives you a great opportunity to see how the people surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park live. It is also a great way to support the local community in a direct way. The Walk begins with your guide at the Camp and is most informative to the Visitors. All Vehicles are provided with pop-top roofs for easy and excellent safari viewing. All passengers will have a dedicated window seat. What to bring with you for a wildlife safari
NB: It is not a Guarantee to see all the Various Animals in the Parks, especially Cats but there is a great chance that you might see them during an Evening or Early Morning Game drive because it is less hot around that time and therefore the animals are freely roaming around as opposed to typical afternoon hours when it gets too hot for the animals and they go undertaking cover from the sun.
ABOUT GORILLA TREKKING: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest (Uganda) Trails
are steeper and less accessible, hence high levels of Energy is needed. Treks are often 2 to 3 hours each way (but can be more Or Less) and involve hiking through dense forest and traversing steep ravines and mountainsides, often in damp conditions. However, all this adventure is worthwhile for a glimpse of one of nature’s finest spectacles.
There is a minimum age of 15 years on gorilla treks
What to wear and take on your gorilla trek:
With changeable weather conditions and dense forest vegetation it is
advisable to take layers of protective clothing. We recommend wearing the following:
• t-shirt
• long-sleeved top
• warm fleece / jumper
• thick trousers
• thick wool socks (and gaiters preferably)
• strong lightweight, water-proof walking boots
• hat with brim
• garden gloves to aid scrambling up banks
And carry a small rucksack with:
• water
• packed lunch and snacks
• binoculars
• camera / video camera with spare battery, memory cards or film
• light-weight rain Mac / poncho
Walking sticks are available at the Park headquarters and porters can be hired for approx. US$20.
A sealed plastic bag around camera / lenses will help keep them dry on the trek. Pockets are useful for valuables and spare camera batteries / lenses etc. as all other equipment must be left with porters approx. 200 meters away from the gorilla groups.
