Many of these curio shops work with foundations that greatly improve the livelihoods of the surrounding local communities with projects like Aid a Child and scholarships to children that lost their parents to AIDS

This is not the only Equator monument in Uganda, there is another one located in Kasese District and can be visited on your tour to Mountain Rwenzori National Park or on your Wildlife Safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park and place a foot in the southern and northern hemisphere as you enjoy great Photo Opportunities. If you are going to Western Uganda with us on a Safari – you will not miss a visit to the Equator in Uganda.

How many countries does the equator pass through?

The Equator passes through 13 countries: Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, Sao Tome & Principe, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Maldives, Indonesia and Kiribati.

Of these 13 countries that lie on the equator, seven are in Africa (Sao Tome and Principe, Gabon, Republic of the Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Kenya, Somalia) the most of any continent, while South America is home to three of the nations (Ecuador, Colombia, and Brazil). The remaining three (Maldives, Kiribati, and Indonesia) are island nations in the Indian and Pacific oceans.  The landmasses of Maldives and Kiribati, however, do not touch the equator itself. Instead, the equator passes through water controlled by these two island countries.
