This 10 day East African Safari or 10 days Tanzania & Uganda Gorillas and Wildlife Tour brings you close to the top destinations in East Africa, discovering the Best of Uganda and Tanzania for the best Gorilla trekking Safaris in Uganda and the best Wildlife viewing in Tanzania. This Safari will take you to Tanzania’s Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti National Park home to the greatest concentration and diversity of Wildlife and the Ngorongoro crater.  You will fly into Rwanda and drive by road crossing the Border to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the rare Mountain Gorillas thus enjoying the Best of Wildlife and Primates.

DETAILED SAFARI ITINERARY

DAY 1: Airport pick up and transfer to Hotel

On arrival at the international airport in Arusha, You will be met by our MuAfrika Adventures representative who will transfer you to a hotel in Arusha Town for Check-in and overnight stay at Impala hotel / Liboru safari lodge

DAY 2: Transfer from Arusha – Lake Manyara national park

After your morning breakfast, transfer to Lake Manyara national park where you will first meet the Mto wa mbu community which is an assorted ethnic concentration of people that belong to all the 120 different tribes of Tanzania living together. This exciting walk will give you an opportunity to interact with the local people and learn more about their foodstuffs and their preparation, architectural designs and famous wood carvings, Later proceed to Lake Manyara National Park arriving on time for lunch. In the afternoon you head to the park for a game drive experience with the possibility of viewing Lake Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, elephants, baboons, and impalas among others as well as large flocks of flamingos attracted by the algae in the lake. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay

DAY 3: Transfer from Lake Manyara – Serengeti national park

After your morning breakfast, we drive to Serengeti National Park which is one of the popular wildlife destinations with over a million wildebeest, hundreds of zebras, honey badger and counts of Nile crocodiles passing through the endless plains, rolling into the distance as far as eyes can see heading to seronera area in Serengeti national park for an extensive wild game viewing experience. Arrive on time for your lunch. Later enjoy an afternoon game drive in Serengeti national park. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 4: Transfer from Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro crater

After breakfast, you can choose to glide in a hot air balloon(optional) over the Serengeti plains while spotting wildlife and enjoying the amazing scenery of the park across the rivers and over lavish small villages. Later depart for Ngorongoro conservation Area to explore the beautiful countryside making a stopover at Olduvai Gorge, boasting with the history of discovering the early man skull by Dr Mary Leaky. Later arrive on time for lunch and check in at the lodge. Later in the afternoon, we incline into the crater to view wildlife like lions, black rhinos, buffalos, elands, warthogs and so many more. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at:

DAY 5: Transfer from Ngorongoro crater – Arusha Town

After your morning breakfast set off from Ngorongoro and transfer to Arusha town. Reach the town early evening. Depending on the time you can choose to do a city tour around Arusha town visiting the market and the museums. Retire to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

DAY 6: Fly from Arusha to Rwanda and drive into Uganda

After breakfast, transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight to Kigali international airport in Rwanda the land of a thousand hills. In Kigali, you will meet a safari guide from MuAfrika Adventures who will transfer you to Uganda driving through the impressive hillside landscapes of Rwanda. Clear with the Immigrations and cross the border at Gatuna into Uganda proceeding Southwestern part of the Country arriving late evening for your check into the booked lodge. DAY 7: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi impenetrable national park

Following your morning breakfast at the lodge, drive to the park headquarters for registration and a briefing by park rangers about gorilla trekking before commencing to the gorilla sanctuary, 7:30 am Start Gorilla trekking; the ranger guide takes you through the huge Bwindi Forest as you search for the giant apes. The venture of spending time observing these gentle and endangered giants is an awesome and thrilling experience relished but tiresome. Return to the lodge for lunch and resting, afternoon take a community walk to the Community village which gives you an opportunity to see how the people surrounding the park have survived for the generation living near the great forest. Later transfer back to the Lodge for dinner and Overnight as above.

DAY 8: Transfer from Bwindi Forest National Park – Queen Elizabeth national park

After your Breakfast, we depart by road for Queen Elizabeth national park through the Park’s Famous tree-climbing lions of Ishasha sector, we will arrive in the afternoon on time for a Boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel with the views of wild animals that come to cool off at the channel shores like elephants, buffalos, Nile crocodiles and so many others. From the boat, you connect to your lodge for check-in, dinner and overnight at:

DAY 9: Queen Elizabeth National Park –Morning game drive and a transfer to Kibale national park

After your breakfast set off for a game drive in the kasenyi plains one of the popular wild game viewing sectors of the Park with sights of animals like elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob, leopard, topis among others. The experience lasts for close to 3-4 hours. Later depart for Kibale national park with a stop in Fort portal town for your Lunch, in the evening take a Community tour of the Bigodi community to interact with the locals. DAY 10: Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National park Departure

After breakfast, report to the park headquarters for a briefing and then head into the jungles of Kibale National Park’s Rain forest for an amazing and rewarding experience for trekking Chimpanzees. You will also be able to explore the Jungle, Swamps as well as the grassland around the Forest. As you search for the Chimpanzees lookout for other forest animals such as Elephants, buffalos, and Huge Forest Hogs plus a variety of bird species, Butterflies as well as different tree species. Later after our Chimpanzee Experience, we drive to Fort portal for Lunch and depart for Kampala exploring the countryside landscapes marked by swanky flora and extensive tea plantations as you proceed to Kampala arriving in the evening. Transfer to the airport for your flight.

While on a Safari always be sure to have all your belongings before checking out of the Accommodations to avoid losing things that may be important to you.

Transport: Our Safaris involve a lot of travelling on the main Tarmac and Dirt Roads thus transport is provided in closed 4X4 Wheel drive Toyota Land Cruisers for all luxury Tours and the standard 4×4 Wheel drive Safari minivans for all Midrange – Budget Safaris. All Vehicles are provided with pop-top roofs for easy and excellent safari viewing. All passengers will have a dedicated window seat. Your professional English speaking and courteous driver/guide will be at your disposal for questions or translations.

For fly-in Tours/safaris / Private Charter flights: a combination of light aircraft and small plane Charters can fly you to all National Parks in Uganda Such as;

  • Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (Kisoro and Kihihi Airstrip) for your Gorilla Trekking Safari.
  • Queen Elizabeth National Park (Mweya and Kasese Airstrip) to view the Park’s Big Five Game Safari.
  • Murchison Falls National Park (Pakuba and Chobe Airstrip ) to view the Park’s Big Five Game Safari and the Murchison Falls.
  • Lake Mburo National Park ( Mbarara Airstrip)
  • Kibale Forest National Park ( Kasese Airstrip)
  • Kidepo National Park.  These Flights decrease the miles on the ground needed to reach remote destinations. This is also Combined with the use of closed 4×4 Wheel Drive Vehicles with pop-top roofs that pick you up from the Airfields since they are located far away from the National Parks and Lodges that are usually in remote areas and this may involve some travelling on the main tarmac or dirt roads to reach the final destinations.

What to bring with you for a wildlife safari

  • Rain Jacket is essential as it could unpredictably Rain
  • Light Clothes as the sun does shine pretty bright in Murchison falls and Queen Elizabeth National Parks
  • Torch is essential for safety purposes
  • Sunglasses to protect you from direct sun rays
  • A zoom lens Camera for photographs
  • A good insect repellent to keep those persistent Insects and Mosquitoes away.

NB: It is not a Guarantee to see all the Various Animals in the Parks, especially Cats but there is a great chance that you might see them during an Evening or Early Morning Game drive because it is less hot around that time and therefore the animals are freely roaming around as opposed to typical afternoon hours when it gets too hot for the animals and they go undertaking cover from the sun.

Gorilla trekking points to Note: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda, Trails are steeper and less accessible, hence high levels of Energy is needed. Treks are often 2 to 3 hours each way (but can be more Or Less) and involve hiking through dense forest and traversing steep ravines and mountainsides, often in damp conditions. However, all this adventure is worthwhile for a glimpse of one of nature’s finest spectacles. There is a minimum age of 15 years on gorilla treks

What to wear and bring with you on your gorilla trek: 

With changeable weather conditions and dense forest vegetation, it is advisable to take layers of protective clothing. We recommend wearing the following:

  • t-shirt
  • long-sleeved top
  • warm fleece/jumper
  • thick trousers
  • thick wool socks (and gaiters preferably)
  • strong lightweight, waterproof walking boots
  • hat with brim
  • garden gloves to aid in scrambling up banks

And carry a small rucksack with:

  • water
  • packed lunch and snacks
  • binoculars
  • camera/video camera with spare battery, memory cards or film
  • light-weight rain Mac / poncho

Walking sticks are available at the Park headquarters and porters can be hired for approx. US$20.

A sealed plastic bag around the camera/lenses will help keep them dry on the trek. Pockets are useful for valuables and spare camera batteries/lenses etc. as all other equipment must be left with porters approx. 200 meters away from the gorilla groups.
